The Discussion and Book Launching Event with the Gender and Sexuality Study Unit entitled Symbolic Subversion: Heteronormativity and Aesthetics Passion is part of the dissemination of information and education in the field of gender studies and sexism issues that are not widely known. The book tells about the trajectory of life among three categories of women living outside the bounds of heteronormativity in Jakarta and Delhi, two major cities with very different religious and social values: women who lost their husbands, either by divorce or death; sex workers; and urban young women in same-sex relationships. As an ideology and practice, heteronormativity transcends heterosexuality, national borders, and permeates all social institutions, such as education, law, religion, and the media. The discussion and book launch event was attended by one of the authors directly Prof. Saskia Wieringa and other speakers as responders, namely RR Agustine from the Inclusive Legal Center, and Dr. Diana Teresa Pakasi as Chair of Gender and Sexuality, as well as book translator Catharina Indirastuti.
